Senapaty joined Wipro as an internal auditor in 1980, after a brief stint with Lovelock and Lewis. Senapaty made rapid progress through Wipro’s hierarchy. Within two years he was head of finance of Wipro’s largest factory, and then CFO of what is now Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting, an FCMG business unit.

In 1992 Senapaty became CFO of Wipro’s IT business. During 1992 to 1993 the IT aspect became the biggest piece of Wipro’s business in terms of additional headcount, revenue growth, and complexity. Senapaty was appointed CFO of the entire Wipro Corporation in 1995.
