Roy Ayliffe has been a purchasing and supply management (P&SM) professional for 30 years; a full member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) for 22 years and a fellow for five years. Currently as CIPS director of professional practice he ensures the institute is influential at the centre of P&SM excellence.

The current main focus is to promote the value of P&SM to CEOs and deliver, for the whole profession, a set of high-level tools and other guidance products to manage P&SM functions. In addition, Roy is interviewed regularly by the media, including every month on a number of TV and radio channels where he explains the implications of the latest purchasing manager's index, a major economic indicator which strongly influences the Bank of England when determining interest rates.
