Bill Clough, Vice President, European Software, IDC
Bill Clough joined IDC's European Software Group in August 2000 covering market research on the enterprise applications and CRM applications markets. Now Vice President and Group Manager for the European Software Group, his primary research focus is the overall European software market as well as major topics like vendor go-to-market strategies, and converging application areas like content management, business intelligence and compliance. This research in connection with a diverse set of analysts in the European Software Group enables a complete view into the dynamics, players, sizing and future direction of the dynamic software markets in Europe.
In conjunction with research services, Clough also contributes to consulting engagements in the form of white papers, ROI/TCO analysis, newsletters and case studies. In addition, he has provided customised strategic market planning, positioning and opportunity advice for IT vendors and investment banks alike.
Clough has also been actively involved in giving presentations on the technology impact on business, as well as specific market trends (e.g. BI, CRM, CM) around Europe for IT vendors and end-user organisations alike. With these public and privately held forums, he hopes to help improve understanding of software solutions and the benefits and relevant connections to broader organisational business strategies.
Prior to joining IDC, Clough was responsible for international marketing and partner relations at a Danish start-up software developer. Before that he worked for software developer GeoWorks in Berkeley, California, in both sales and service capacities, and for telecom provider Pacific Bell (SBC Communications) in San Ramon, California, where he was involved with the design and implementation of a customised sales automation software solution.
Originating from Northern California, Bill now lives in Copenhagen with his Danish wife and family. Bill holds a BA from San Francisco State University in Sociology and International Business as well as international business seminars at the Business University Aarhus, Denmark and Copenhagen Business School.
